HOW DISTINCT ARE THEY?

The media always seems to portray personalities as very distinct from one another but this is often not the case. Why do they have to be so different? They are created to handle certain things in the person’s life. They are not created just for fun. It is most likely that the characteristics of the personality is created to match a function and role they need to fulfill.

Personalities can be whoever they want to be and they can be uniquely different from each other or they can be quite similar.

Dr. Richard Kluft said that actually “the personalities need only be as distinct, public and elaborate as becomes necessary in the handling of stressful situations.”; and

In childhood cases, investment in separateness and distinctness is usually minimal. (Clinical Presentations of Multiple Personality Disorder see BOOKS, ARTICLES)

Over time, the personalities might become more distinct from each other. Each time a personality is out they gain life experience and add to their own specific life history. This might involve them doing something that would increase a skill or talent, such as drawing, or build up an ability to be a good listener.
