HOW DO THE PERSONALITIES DETERMINE WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE LIKE?

Stanley wonders how Mean Joe became black. Whether it was because the mother was nice to a young black boy, or because the stepfather was white or did Mean Joe just decide he was black one day. The question addressed MPD as a process and Stanley reminded himself that no one knew exactly how it worked. (When Rabbit Howls see BOOKS, ARTICLES)

The characteristics and personality traits of a created DID personality can be based on many things.

It might be based on the personality’s role.

We have a personality named Ariel. Her role was to take care of our social relationships when at high school so she became very sociable and outgoing, very playful and funny. She wanted people to like us. She also has a good memory for names and was especially good at high school, remembering everyone’s names. It kept us in the know.

A group of personalities we created, called The Codes, could not afford to feel their feelings. We saw them as made of stone, obviously, because stone has no emotions.

We wanted to preserve childlike curiosity and wonder, and wanted to be a child that was extremely cute and loveable. So we created Annie Charlie.

A young girl might create a young boy who is tough because she believes tough boys don’t get abused as often and if they do, they don’t cry or show their fear.

There is almost always a reason behind the characteristics of a personality.
