o. INTROJECT

Introjects are personalities who have copied the personality of another person.

This may happen often with multiples where they have introjects of their abusers. This type of personality may be just as abusive, threatening and demanding as the original abuser. The ultimate goal is for protection. It’s as if the personality acts as a constant reminder of what happened to them and, even if the abuse is no longer happening, the threat is still there. The personality reminds the person to continue to obey the abuser in order to stay safe, even if it’s no longer needed.

Sometimes the multiple might have a personality who is an introject of the therapist. This way the person also helps herself in the healing process and can learn to depend on her own wisdom rather than always on the therapist. She learns to be her own therapist.
