TO TEST FOR DISSOCIATION

There are specific tests that can be performed to see if a person is dissociating to a more extreme state, as in multiple personality:
  • the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Dissociative Disorders-Revised (SCID-D-R) which assesses five symptoms of dissociation with strong reliability

  • the Dissociative Disorder Interview Schedule (DDIS) which assesses dissociation as well as symptoms for borderline personality disorder, major depression and more

  • the Clinician Administered Dissociative States Scale (CADSS).

  • and six self-reporting measures of dissociation

  •      the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES) – first and most successful, translated into many languages, used in over 250 published studies

  •     the Questionnaire of Experiences of Dissociation (QED)

  •     the Dissociation Questionnaire (DIS-Q)

  •     the Somatoform Dissociation Questionnaire-20 (SDQ-20)

  •     the Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation (MID)

  •     the Multiscale Dissociation Inventory (MDI)

Other psychological tests can provide understanding of the patient’s personality structure and may suggest DID but may lead to misdiagnosis as they were not designed to detect dissociative disorders
