Relationships among the personalities

Just as in any community or group, people have relationships with each other. So too, can a group of personalities in a multiple have relationships with each other. And they can be quite strong and powerful.

A number of our adult personalities took care of the younger ones. Some were like older siblings to the younger ones. Stoene Boy, age 7, and Hartly, age 6, adore their “older brother” Tee-Tee who just turned 13. He is very much like their big brother.

Katy Ann, age 26, and Sixteen, age 29, are best friends.

Not all the relationships are positive. Some can be all about conflict, all the time. For example, a group of teenage personalities might cause problems for the person.

Vicky “They do things together, those two, Peggy Lou and Peggy Ann. … what arouses Peggy Lou’s anger makes Peggy Ann afraid.” (Sybil see BOOKS, ARTICLES)

Marcia and Vanessa did things together, as did Mike and Sid, Marjorie and Ruthie, and the Peggys. Although not a team, Mary and Vanessa were special friends. (Sybil see BOOKS, ARTICLES)

Personalities may collaborate sometimes on pretty much anything. They might work together to be a parent, they may do art work together, they may have various roles at work or school that complement each other.

None of the paintings, of course, was Sybil’s alone. Most were collaborative efforts of several of the selves. Collaboration had proved constructive at times, destructive at others. (Sybil see BOOKS, ARTICLES)
